VA. INSURANCE COSTS BELOW U.S. AVERAGE

Virginians pay $119 less than the national average for automobile insurance, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

The NAIC figures released Thursday by the State Corporation Commission show the average car insurance policy in Virginia costs $481. The national average is $600.

Residents of 33 states pay more than Virginians, the study said. Average premiums range from $337 in Nebraska to $1,101 in New Jersey. The District of Columbia has the second-highest average: $879.

Other average premiums are Maryland, $657; West Virginia, $497; Tennessee, $494; Kentucky, $452; and North Carolina, $434. - Associated Press
