JAMERSON, BARLOW RECIPIENTS OF ALUMNI AWARDS

William E. Jamerson and William K. Barlow have been selected by the Virginia Tech Alumni Association to receive the 1990 awards for Alumni Distinguished Achievement.

The Alumni Association periodically honors alumni for outstanding service and support on behalf of the University and the Association.

Jamerson, who received a bachelor's degree in building construction from Virginia Tech in 1956, has continued his service to the university since graduation as a member of the Architectural Advisory Council, Virginia Tech Foundation, Athletic Fund and vice chairman of the second century campaign, a $17 million campaign in support of intercollegiate athletics.

Jamerson's service to the community includes serving as a member of the Appomattox County Board of Supervisors and as president of the Patrick Henry Home for Boys. He also serves on the board of directors of the Farmers National Bank in Appomattox and Crestar Bank in Lynchburg.

Barlow, who received a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics with honors in 1958, went on to receive a law degree from the University of Virginia and is now an attorney with Barlow, Council and Riddick in Smithfield. In addition to his academic achievements, Barlow was the regimental commander of the Corps of Cadets and president of the class of 1958. He also was selected Campus Man of the Year.

Barlow continued his service to the university, serving as president of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association from 1977-78.

He is the past president of the Smithfield Rotary Club and is a member of the Smithfield Ruritan Club and the Smithfield Baptist Church. Barlow is also the past chairman of the Walter Cecil Rawls Regional Library and is on the advisory board of the Tri-County Health Clinic.
