REAL ESTATE FIRM SUES CROSSROADS

Edwin C. Hall Associates, a Roanoke real estate company, has claimed breach of a lease agreement and loss of commission in a $2 million damage suit in U.S. District Court in Roanoke against the owners of Crossroads Mall, a store and its leasing agent. The Hall firm asked $1 million in compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages from Zane May Operating Partners of Dallas, Baby Superstore Inc. of Greenville, S.C., and its agent, Richard Alterman & Associates of Atlanta.

Hall said it had a contract granting exclusive right to lease Crossroads property on a 4 percent commission but two of Zane May's employees leased space directly to Baby Superstore through Alterman. As a result, the civil suit papers said, Hall lost the commission. Hall also claimed the loss of commission income when Zane May leased space to Anna Rene Candy Stores. Zane May has refused to pay Hall commissions for both leases, according to court papers. Zane May representatives had not seen the suit Friday and had no comment on the case.
