STUDENT FACES SHOPLIFTING SPREE CHARGE

A Virginia Tech student has been charged in connection with a shoplifting spree in which more than $1,000 worth of clothing was taken from seven stores at Valley View Mall in Roanoke.

Kirsten Marie Napjus, 21, of the 100 block of College Avenue in Blacksburg, was charged with possession of stolen property.

Roanoke police said Friday that stolen merchandise worth $1,152 was found stored in a van parked in the mall's parking lot.

Police were called to the mall Thursday night after a security guard at Leggett saw a woman place an item of female clothing in a large bag and then leave the store, police said.

The woman was confronted in the parking lot and later led authorities to the van loaded with stolen merchandise.

Napjus said she had just returned from spring break, police said. Authorities said Friday that they are seeking a second woman in connection with the case.

Merchandise was taken from the following stores: Leggett, The Limited, Pasta, Thalhimers, Paul Harris, American Eagle and Jaclyn's Hallmark.

The arrests mark the second major shoplifting spree at Valley View in less than a week.

Earlier this week, two Salem teen-agers were charged with taking about $1,300 worth of female clothing from nine stores at the mall.
