SMYTH COUNTY BANK ROBBED

A Smyth County bank was robbed Friday morning by a masked bandit carrying a handgun, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Smyth County Sheriff's Department said an undetermined amount of cash was taken from The First National Bank of Saltville, Rich Valley branch.

The man entered the bank on Virginia 107 about 9:40 a.m. and demanded cash. He was wearing black clothing and a black ski mask.

The suspect was described as being a white male, 6 feet, 160 pounds and in his early 20s. He had shoulder-length, reddish-blond hair and was driving a late model red Ford pickup truck with chrome wheels and a chrome strip across the tailgate.
