POPLAR FOREST GIVEN $50,000 CONSERVATION GRANT

Poplar Forest, Thomas Jefferson's home in Bedford County, has received a $50,000 architectural conservation grant from the J. Paul Getty Trust.

The grant will help the Corporation for Jefferson's Poplar Forest to develop detailed conservation plans for the octagonal house that Jefferson built between 1806 and 1826.

The Getty Trust awarded a similar grant to Monticello, Jefferson's principal residence near Charlottesville.

Both houses have been designated as National Landmarks.
