OBIT--SURBER 
      
   Stephen Wayne Surber, of New York City, passed away on April 4, after a 
long illness. He was 34 years old. Mr. Surber was employed as an 
advertising/traffic coordinator by FCD Leber Katz Partners, an international 
advertising firm. He was an accomplished musician, and performed with numerous
choral organizations in the United States, Europe, and South America during 
his thirteen years in New York City. Mr. Surber received a BS in music 
education at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va. He was a native
of Floyd, Va. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Doris E. Surber, of Richmond,
Va.; one sister, Mrs. Sandy Noell of Midlothian, Va.; one brother, Charles 
Winn Surber of Palm Beach, Fla.; Gerry Noell, brother-in-law, of Midlothian, 
Va.; and two nieces, Jennifer Carleton Noell, Laura Winn Noell. The family has
requested that memorial gifts should be made to the St. Vincent's Hospital, 
153 West Eleven St., New York City, N.Y. 10011.
