Police found the body of Clarence Thurman Calloway shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday on the living room floor of his home at 400 West King St., according to Bedford City Police Chief Fred Russell. Calloway had been shot in the chest with a small-caliber weapon, Russell said.
Calloway was pronounced dead on the scene.
Several hours later, police arrested James Edward Jones, 32, of 509A Crenshaw St., Bedford, and charged him with murder and use of a firearm, Russell said. Jones, whose age was not available, was being held in the Bedford County Jail Sunday.
Other people were in the King Street house at the time of the shooting, Russell said. They told police that the two men knew each other and had been together earlier Saturday evening.
