WYVE NEWS OPERATION GETS STATE UPI HONORS

United Press International has named WYVE Radio of Wytheville as the state's top news operation in its division and its news director, Danny Gordon, as newsman of the year in Virginia radio.

It was the third straight year that the station and Gordon have won those honors at the annual UPI/Radio Television News Directors Association convention, held Saturday and Sunday at Virginia Beach.

WYVE won first-place awards for news operation, overall sports coverage, spot news, continuing coverage of a single event, commentary, best individual newscast and feature news story and second place in in-depth news. - Southwest bureau
