RETIREE WILL SEEK CONGRESSIONAL SEAT

Alexander Peaslee of Charlottesville, a retired foreign service officer, announced Monday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the 7th District seat in Congress.

Peaslee, 68, must win 151 of 300 delegate votes to secure the nomination at the party's May 19 district convention. Robert E. Frazier, a retired military pilot from Albemarle County who sought the seat as an independent in 1984, and the Rev. David Smith, son of Frederick County Del. Alson H. Smith Jr., also are seeking the party's nod.

Republican incumbent D. French Slaughter Jr. is seeking a fourth term.
