Dianne Lepchitz, manager of Felix Books and Gifts, said parking hours need to be modified on Tyler so customers can have adequate parking when businesses open. People currently are not allowed to park on the street until noon, and there is a three-hour limit.
". . . We do want shoppers to come to Radford so we don't want to drive them away with confusing signs and inadequate parking," said Lepchitz. She suggested parking be allowed around 8 or 9 a.m.
Councilman David Worrell said the starting time of noon was established for snow removal.
Councilwoman Polly Corn said police don't have the personnel to patrol Tyler Avenue the extra hours. She said the expense of having an officer patrol the area more would be too costly. Corn suggested the matter be referred to the transportation committee for it to study and report back to Council by June 12. The motion passed.
In other matters, Council: Set aside $11,693 in local matching funds for a Department of Game and Inland Fisheries grant for construction of boat ramp facilities at Riverview Park.
Appointed Jiggs Bruce, Linda Harrison and Jerry Krebs to the Board of Viewers in charge of reviewing Price Partnership's request to close an alley parallel to Lawrence Street.
Approved $124,300 for improvement of the interior access road to the Radford Industrial Center.
Approved the Habitat for Humanity's request for two more lots. Titles to these lots will be transferred to Habitat.
Appointed David Ridpath and Ann Chrisman to the New River Valley Development Corp.
