GALAX MAN CHARGED IN HIT-AND-RUN

A 20-year-old Galax man has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of an Elkin, N.C., woman struck by a vehicle shortly after midnight March 18.

Galax police arrested Timothy Spencer on Monday and charged him with involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run resulting in a death. He was being held in lieu of $25,000 bond.

Patricia Vass Wall, 28, was killed as she was walking on Stuart Drive. She had been attending a Saint Patrick's Day dance earlier with a friend at the Galax Elks Lodge. She was apparently killed nearly instantly.

A spokesman for the Galax Police Department said Tuesday that the investigation was continuing and more arrests are possible.
