SAVING FREEDOM MEANS LIARS MUST BE CONDEMNED

AN ADDENDUM to the visit of Oliver North to Washington and Lee University:

The making of a false statement deliberately presented as being true and meant to deceive or give a wrong impression is not the quality of moral excellence that we need to instill in our children. It is certainly not a quality desired in the establishment of family values.

Liars ultimately enslave themselves as well as those around them. Therefore, if freedom is the objective, then the condemnation of those who lie is imperative.

Dissent is an essential element for an open and free society. However, respect for the institutions of such a society is equally important.

If lying, disrespect for Congress, and intolerance of our neighbors are the standards of a conservative, then label me a liberal, because I believe that the telling of the truth is a key family value; that one can disagree within and/or with the institutions of our society, especially Congress, in a respectful manner; and that tolerance is one of the greatest family values.
