QUESTIONS VINTON INPUT ON MERGER

IN AN ARTICLE in your Feb. 7 issue, Town Manager George Nester of Vinton stated that, although the town is not party to the plan for consolidating the governments of Roanoke County and the city of Roanoke, Vinton Mayor Charles Hill had "quite a bit" of input into the details of the agreements.

I can readily appreciate that Mayor Hill should have been kept abreast of the agreement. However, I seriously question whether he should have been allowed "quite a bit" of input into the details. This is especially so because little or no input was solicited from those directly affected residents in eastern Roanoke County who will be forced to become a part of Vinton if the consolidation plan is approved.
