Why should we help rebuild a city that resembles downtown Berlin, vintage 1945?
Why help tear down a viaduct that was "absolutely needed" to help traffic flow through downtown Roanoke?
Why rebuild Henry Street? Have you noticed what happened to all the rebuilding in Roanoke City after a very short interval of time?
Why should we go to bat and fatten the city coffers, drained by all their giveaway programs?
Why give up our excellent services, especially snow removal, for little or no service at all?
Why spend all the time, money and bickering before feeling out the voting public? Why not get off your duffs and ask Roanoke County residents their opinions? I have, and have yet to find anyone ready to join the city.
Why, being a resident of Northwest County and already considered second-class to the Tanglewood leaders, should we want to sink further into oblivion?
Why not lay it on the line? The basic reason for this whole fiasco is to expand the tax base for Roanoke City. The above whys include Glenvar, Northwest County, Southeast County; and even Southwest County, with the possible exception of the Cave Spring area, which may well be a patsy in any future vote.
Please leave us to enjoy our life in the county. If we had preferred the city, we would have settled there in the first place. EARL A. PONTING ROANOKE
