CARROLL TRASH RATE INCREASE APPROVED

Carroll County residents will be paying 25 cents more per month for trash pickups, but 5 cents less than they might have paid.

Ron Molloy of C&M Carting Co. asked the Carroll County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday to allow a percentage increase that would have raised the monthly fee from $6.45 to $6.74, citing a number of expenses including new vehicle purchases to better serve county residents.

The board agreed that the increase was justified. Then Molloy suggested rounding off the new figure. The board agreed to that, too, but - while Molloy had meant rounding it off at $6.75 - the board rounded it off at $6.70.

Rates for senior citizens will stay the same at $5.60 a month. C&M Carting has increased its number of Carroll customers in the last two years from 1,500 to 1,700.
