Lt. Col. Harry Moorman Durham took over as second in command of the state police on April 1, Col. William F. Corvello, the superintendent of state police, announced.
Durham attended Shawsville High School and Northwestern University. His mother, Helen D. Durham, lives in Christiansburg.
The 47-year-old Durham succeeds Corvello as deputy superintendent. Durham was director of the department's bureau of administrative and support services before his promotion.
He has been with the state police since 1965.
The department's new director of field operations is Lt. Col. Letcher A. Graham, a Roanoke native. Formerly deputy director of field operations, Graham, 58, was promoted from major when he assumed his new duties.
Graham succeeds Lt. Col. Charles M. Robinson, 54, a Norfolk native, who replaces Durham as director of the bureau of administrative and support services.
Major John B. Scott, 46, a native of Bland County, has been named deputy director of field operations. He was formerly deputy director of the bureau of administrative services.
All appointments were effective April 1.
