FRELANTZ SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS OPEN

The Advertising Federation of the Roanoke Valley is accepting applications for the Fred Frelantz scholarship for a student in broadcasting, advertising, marketing or communications. The stipend is $1,000, paid directly to the recipient's school for tuition.

Applicants must be rising seniors in an accredited college or university or entering their final year in a two-year institution. They must be graduates of a high school in Roanoke, Salem, Bedford or the counties of Roanoke, Craig, Botetourt, Bedford or Franklin. Entries involve writing an essay describing why the student is following one of the four careers.

Students should contact the Scholarship Committee, Fred Frelantz Scholarship, P.O. Box 13393, Roanoke 24033. The federation established the scholarship in 1986 to honor the late Fred Mugler, who used the name Frelantz in his radio and advertising career. - Staff report
