MUTILATED BABY LESS THAN ONE DAY OLD

An infant whose mutilated remains were found in a clogged mechanical sewage grinder over the weekend was less than 24 hours old, authorities said Monday.

Two legs and an arm were found Sunday by an attendant at the Difficult Run Sewage Pumping Station.

An examination of the remains Monday showed that the infant apparently had been dismembered before being placed in the sewerage system, police spokesman Peter Fakoury said.

Fakoury said the baby's age leads authorities to believe the infant was placed in a sewer line either late Saturday or early Sunday.
