BELL ATLANTIC PROFITS UP
Bell Atlantic, parent of C&P Telephone Co. of Virginia, said its first
quarter earnings were $355.3 million, up 7.4 percent from $330.8 million a
year ago. Total operating revenues came to $3.02 billion, up 9 percent from
$2.77 billion. The company said the results reflect strong volume in the
network service business, acquisition of Control Data Corp. and continued
growth in non-telephone business.
