MUSEUM RETURNS BIBLE TO LAST OF MOHICANS

The last of the Mohicans, who fought beside Massachusetts farmers in the Revolutionary War and embraced their Christianity, will get back a historic Bible presented to the tribe in the 1700s.

"We felt it was the right thing to do," Frederic Winthrop Jr., director of a private historical group that has the Bible in its museum here, said Friday.

The remnants of the Mohican tribe became known as the Stockbridge-Munsee after they were driven from the Berkshires.

"We are pretty elated," said Reginald Miller, tribal chairman.
