BRISTOW TAKES HORNETS' OFFER

Denver Nuggets assistant coach Allan Bristow said Saturday he has accepted an offer to join Charlotte at the end of the NBA playoffs, becoming the Hornets' vice president of basketball operations.

Peter Bynoe, the Denver Nuggets' managing general partner, said he gave Charlotte permission to speak with Bristow earlier in the week after Hornets owner George Shinn requested it.

"Allan was offered and has accepted the offer to join the Hornets at the end of the season . . . ," Bynoe said. "The Denver Nuggets wish Allan the best in his new position and we'll try to send him off with an outstanding playoff performance."

Bristow, finishing his sixth season as an assistant to Nuggets coach Doug Moe, played in the NBA after averaging 23 points per game at Virginia Tech. He was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round of the 1973 NBA draft and played for the Sixers for two seasons before signing with San Antonio as a free agent in 1975.

Bristow spent four years with the Spurs, two with Utah and two with Dallas before retiring as a player in 1983.
