"In the slightly less than five years I've been on the board, I felt like the school system has come a long way," Profitt said.
"The fact of the matter, though, is that it has a way further to go. We've made quite a few improvements. But there are some things we need to improve upon.
"We've begun to do some good things. I'd like to be able to see them through."
Profitt represents District B-81 on the board. He was chairman one year and vice chairman the year before.
The Board of Supervisors will accept nominations for the School Board seat at a public hearing May 21. The four-year term begins July 1.
