The six, who work at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, will each receive $970,548 of the $5,823,291 prize. Lottery spokeswoman Paula Otto said this is the first time that a group of people shared ownership of a winning lotto ticket.
The winners were Kenneth C. Harkness, 61, of Chesapeake; Bud Pickett, 39, of Virginia Beach; Art Avila, 50, of Norfolk; Peggy P. Keil, 58, of Norfolk; Kathy McLaughlin, 27, of Virginia Beach; and Janie Travis, 56, of Virginia Beach, Otto said.
They each picked up a check for $49,048, or $37,276 after taxes, Otto said. Each will receive 19 additional annual payments of $48,500, or $36,860 after taxes.
Otto said 1,776,865 tickets were sold on Saturday, the day of the drawing, making it the heaviest sales day since the Lotto game began in January.
