Coles, a senior from Lewisburg, W.Va., was selected the team's most valuable player and also was honored as Tech's best defensive player. Coles, the school's all-time leading scorer, had his jersey (No. 12) retired at the end of the season.
Other award winners were senior Scott Davis, who received the Dr. Richard Bullock Trophy as the most inspirational player; senior Greg Brink, for academic achievement; junior David Herbster, most improved player; and freshman Dirk Williams, the Hurryin' Hokie hustler award. - Staff report
