UMW LABOR HEARING POSTPONED A WEEK

The first federal court hearing involving National Labor Relations Board charges of unfair labor practices against the United Mine Workers has been postponed at least until next week.

The hearing had been scheduled for Monday, and then today, in U.S. Western District Court at Abingdon. But an NLRB spokesman said Tuesday that the hearing will be held off at least for the rest of this week to give the two sides more time to negotiate an out-of-court agreement.

The charges involved wildcat strikes in several states last summer in support of the UMW strike against Pittston Coal.
