ELIZABETH TAYLOR FEELS BIT BETTER, DOCTORS SAY

Pneumonia-stricken Elizabeth Taylor's spirits were good despite an uncomfortable ventilator that helped her breathe after surgery to determine the cause of her illness, her doctor said Tuesday.

Dr. Michael Roth, a longtime friend and Taylor's physician for 10 years, said the 58-year-old actress was "certainly stable for the moment with the very slightest bit of improvement."

"It started with viral pneumonia," Roth said in a telephone interview after seeing Taylor in the intensive care unit at St. Johns Hospital and Health Center. In addition to the ventilator, intravenous lines were connected.

The Academy Award-winning actress has deteriorated markedly since what was initially described as a sinus infection. - Associated Press
