MINISTER CLAIMS WIN OF CONGRESS NOMINATION

David Smith, a Methodist minister and businessman, has claimed victory in the race for the Democratic nomination for Congress in the 7th District.

In local Democratic mass meetings Saturday and Monday night, Smith, 33, took 162 of 300 delegates selected in the three-way race, according to his campaign manager, Susan Platt.

"Now we hit the road," said Smith, son of Del. Alson Smith.

The nominee will be selected at a May 19 district convention. Winning the nomination requires 151 delegate votes.
