MINERS MARK 20TH ANNIVERSARY

The Virginia Mining and Reclamation Association will hold its 20th anniversary meeting at the Duffield Ramada Inn May 5, with the meeting coinciding to the day with the organization's formation.

Ten members will be recognized for outstanding reclamation and mine safety efforts.

"Our association encourages and promotes good mining and reclamation practices among its members," said Sandy Dysart, executive director. "These awards are only one way to showcase the work being done by the Virginia coal industry."

After 20 years, she said, "everyone should be aware that industry, through this association, can professionally deal with the general public, the media and the regulatory agencies while maintaining a balance between coal production and environmental protection."
