SLAYTON, EDWARD R., III

\ GALAX - Edward Robert Slayton, III, age 37, of Virginia Beach, Va., son of Mrs. and Mrs. E.R. Slayton, Jr. of Galax, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 1990. Trooper Slayton had been with the Virginia State Police for 12 years. During his service with the Virginia State Police, he was a Fire Arms and Driving Instructor for the Department. Trooper Slayton had been awarded a commendation for service performed while on duty by the American Red Cross Association, along with several other awards presented to him by the Virginia State Police. Trooper Slayton attended Galax High School, Fork Union Military Academy and Virginia Tech. Trooper Slayton is survived by his wife, Beverly Barwick Slayton; his parents; brothers, Avery Randolph, Charlotte, N.C.; Darrell Richard, a State Trooper stationed in Front Royal, Va.; Gary Ronald, a State Trooper stationed in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday from the First United Methodist Church, Galax. Interment to be at the Felts Memorial Cemetery, Galax, with a reception to be held after graveside services at the Galax Moose Lodge. The family will be at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. to receive friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.
