CAVE SPRING TROUNCES FRANKLIN CO.

Cave Spring racked up 15 hits, left-hander Mark Hazelwood pitched a seven-hitter and Dee Dalton hit a three-run homer and teamed with Jason St. Clair for six RBI as Cave Spring defeated host Franklin County 10-2 in a Roanoke Valley District baseball game on Friday at Rocky Mount.

Cave Spring is 7-1 in the RVD and 10-4 overall; Franklin County is 3-5 and 4-8.

In other baseball:

Jason Greene's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth gave Pulaski County a 7-6 victory over Patrick Henry in a Roanoke Valley District game at Calfee Park in Pulaski.

Mike Royal hit a three-run homer in first inning, and Johnny Self followed with a solo shot as host Christiansburg (5-1, 8-3) beat Carroll County (2-4, 8-5) 9-6 in the New River District.

Four home runs accounted for 11 Radford runs as the Bobcats defeated George Wythe 18-12 in a New River District game.

John Hunt and Donnie Eaton each had two-run homers to lead Giles to a 12-11 New River District victory over Blacksburg. Matt Smith and Eddie Sloss each hit a two-run homer to pace the Indians.

Brian Carson's RBI double in the top of the seventh gave Alleghany a 8-8 tie with host William Byrd in a Blue Ridge game called for darkness.

Liberty's Keith Coles pitched a four-hitter to improve to 4-0 as the host Minutemen defeated Altavista 8-2 in a Seminole District game.

Craig County used five unearned runs to beat host Lexington 8-4 in the Pioneer District.

J.R. Burks and Reed Cooper combined for six hits and seven RBI to lead Jefferson Forest to a 14-10 Seminole District victory over visiting Gretna.

Mike Decker scored three runs and had five stolen bases to lead Glenvar (7-3) to an 11-2 victory over guest Parry McCluer (6-3).

Danny Lovern threw a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking two in five innings as Shawsville blanked Rocky Gap 12-0.

B.W. Hill hit two home runs and Jeff Freeman homered and pitched a complete game as Fort Chiswell held off visiting Narrows 11-10.

\ SOFTBALL: Jodie Plott singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to give host Alleghany (4-6) a 10-9 victory over Salem and its first Blue Ridge District victory.

At Craig County, Donna Keffer had four hits to lead the Rockets to an 18-12 Pioneer District victory over Bath County.

Amanda Cameron clouted a pair of two-run home runs to lead host James River to a 20-8 Pioneer District victory over Covington.

\ BOYS' SOCCER: Carter Teague scored at 29:15 of the second half and goal keeper Jim Dixon had nine saves as North Cross handed Patrick Henry its first loss of the season 1-0 in a nonleague game.

At Roanoke Catholic, P.J. McCarthy scored three goals to lead the Celtics to a 7-0 victory over Massanutten Military Academy.
