WYTHE COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER

A 32-year-old Wythe County man has been charged with murder in the shooting Saturday of a Pulaski County man.

The body of 21-year old Richard Wayne Smith was found Saturday in front of his mobile home at Walters' Trailer Park in Pulaski County. Lt. R.E. Dobbins of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and had been shot three times.

Wythe County authorities received a tip to the whereabouts of a Max Meadows man being sought for questioning in Smith's death. Wythe County deputies Gerald McPeak and Sam Viars took Harold Lee Lawson Jr. into custody at his mobile home and turned him over to Pulaski County officers.

Lawson was charged with the murder and was being held Sunday night in Pulaski on a $100,000 bond. He is also charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His arraignment is scheduled for today in Pulaski County General District Court.

Pulaski County authorities said the shooting apparently stemmed from an argument.
