The man, who still had not been identified Sunday night, was walking along the railroad tracks located off U.S. 29 about 10 p.m.
State police said the conductor of the southbound train blew the horn as a warning, but the man did not move off the tracks.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. There was evidence that the man had been drinking, state police said.
