MORE BLACKS APPLYING TO LAW SCHOOLS

A record number of black applicants boosted the flood of applications to Virginia's six law schools this year, school admissions officials say.

George Mason University, Regent University, the University of Richmond, the University of Virginia, Washington and Lee University and the College of William and Mary had reached 15,805 by last week.

There are 1,170 openings at the six law schools, which received 14,365 applications last year.

Most schools notified applicants of acceptance for the fall class by April 15, but responses have not been tallied yet. Regent and W&L still are accepting applications.
