"We've gotten a late start," said Canter, who acknowledged that no Democratic Party leaders attended his news conference.

Canter, a tax and trial attorney from Fairfax County, said the voters deserve leadership on key national issues, such as health care, abortion and taxes.
He said serving the public involves more than assigning staff members to respond to letters concerning potholes.
