McDONALD, GORDON D.

Gordon D. McDonald, age 70, of 2343 Cantle Lane, S.W., died Sunday in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II and went in on Omaha Beach on D Day with the 29th Infantry Division. He was a charter member of Hidden Valley Country Club and a retired Vice President of Sales with the Chesapeake Corporation of Roanoke. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn B. McDonald, Roanoke; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Leroy Schmidt, Suffolk, Va.; Debra and William Patsel, Roanoke; sister, Nancy M. Troxwell, New Orleans; grandchildren, Patricia, Rob and Kelly and Kenny Roach, all of Roanoke; Glenn Roach, Boise, Idaho; Ronald and Rene Moran, Portsmouth; Shannon and Billy Patsel, Roanoke; nephew, Robert L. McDonald, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel, 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor George Traub, Pastor Fred Devan and Pastor Nathan Leigh officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or the Cave Spring Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Oakey's South Chapel.
