3 ELECTED IN BEDFORD

Three candidates won election to Bedford City Council Tuesday in an uncontested election.

Incumbent Larry Don Brookshier, an employee of Rubatex Corp.'s marketing department, led the balloting with 253 votes. Brookshier has served on council for four years.

James A. Vest, another incumbent, received 234 votes. Vest, a council member since 1986, works at Piedmont Label Co. in Bedford.

Payton Otey won election to a seat vacated by Thomas Messier with 224 votes. Otey, who is retired, was appointed to council in 1986 and served two years, losing an attempt to be elected to a four-year term in 1988.

Some 306 city residents - about 11 percent of the 2,774 registered voters - turned out Tuesday.
