Showtimers will open "The Boyfriend," a 1920's musical spoof by Sandy Wilson, tonight at the Showtimers' studio theater at 1431 McVitty Road S.W.
Directed by Ann Sylvest, the play was selected as part of the amateur theater group's 40th anniversary season. "The Boyfriend" is also the first musical Showtimers ever produced, first playing to a Roanoke audience in the early '60s.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays, and Sunday matinees are at 3 p.m. Opening night tickets are $6; Thursday and Sunday, $8; Friday and Saturday, $9. For reservations, call 774-2660.

Illustrator, a Christian rock group, will be in concert Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Danville City Auditorium.
Guest performers are Transformation Crusade, a Lynchburg group known for their Christian rap music.

\ Theater seeks artwork
The Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre of Ferrum College is seeking a local artist whose original painting, lithograph or colored sketch can be purchased for the cover of this year's program. The theater will award $175 to the artist whose work is selected.
The picture will become the property of the theater and will be raffled off. Artists are encouraged to submit a color photo or slide of the piece of art to the Blue Ridge Dinner Theatre, Ferrum College, Ferrum, VA 24088, before Saturday. The theme should deal with theater, the Blue Ridge Mountains or a point of local interest.
