Council members authorized the town manager Wednesday to execute a proposed contract with Pulaski Baseball Inc. prohibiting the sale or distribution of alcoholic beverages at the town-owned ballpark without prior written consent of the town.
The ball club recently applied for a license to sell beer at the park, but council members nixed the idea, voting unanimously to oppose beer sales.
The club also has to agree to withdraw any pending licenses and agree not to apply for any type of alcohol license on or off Calfee Field without prior written consent of the town.
Kyle Scharhag, the Braves general manager, had said the sale of beer might attract more of a crowd to the ballpark, and he wanted to leave the option open.
The Braves will pay $2,000 for the 1990 season, $2,500 in 1991 and $3,000 in 1992, according to the contract. There is a possibility of another $500 fee each season based on attendance.
