The Patrick Henry DECA chapter won the following awards: four ribbons - one for each of its DECA diamond projects; a certificate for outstanding contributions to marketing education and DECA through participation in Virginia DECA Day; a plaque for District Trustees Award for achieving the most points for DECA activities in their district; a certificate and plaque for the Blue Chip Award for outstanding achievement in DECA activities.
The club also won three second-place trophies for: social intelligence project, civic consciousness project, and leadership development project; a third place trophy for the vocational Understanding project. The chapter was chosen as the second place DECA chapter in Virginia out of more than 220 chapters.
The creative marketing research project completed by the chapter for the Williamson Road Area Business Association received a first place award. Rhonda Dean, project chairwoman, will represent the chapter with this project at the DECA National Career Development Conference in San Jose, Calif.
\ LARRY BROWN has been awarded a $10,000 yearly scholarship from the honors program in the School of Communications at Howard University, Washington, D.C. Brown also has been honored nationally and nominated by his band director as a U.S. National Band Award winner. He is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students, 1988-89, and among the Outstanding High School Students of America. He is the president of the William Fleming High School Students of City School in the Roanoke Valley. Brown, son of Frances and Robert Brown of Roanoke, is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.
