INNER CITY COACH WINS PUBLIC-SERVICE AWARD

Joe Gaither of Roanoke has received a Jefferson Award from the American Institute for Public Service.

Gaither has been a coach for the Inner City Athletic Association for 11 years. The award recognized him for serving as a role model as well as a coach for his players, many of whom have gone on to successful athletic careers in high school and college.

Nominations for the award were solicited by WSET-TV, the area sponsor for the Jefferson Awards. More than 120 nominations were received and five were selected by a panel of judges to receive the award, a bronze medallion.
