COOL THE BURN: After visiting the the Virginia Championship Chili Cookoff on the Roanoke City Market on Saturday, you can walk across Church Avenue for the Community School's annual Strawberry Festival in Crestar Plaza.

It runs today and tomorrow from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., and as usual will feature luscious strawberries, rich shortcakes, cool whipped cream and refreshing ice cream.

Entertainment will include juggling, twirling, blues singing, storytelling and mandolin picking.\ ON THE BOARDS: "The Boyfriend" is the current offering of the Showtimers at their studio on McVitty Road in Southwest Roanoke. And "A Walk in the Woods" has opened at Mill Mountain's Theatre B in Center in the Square. It has been praised for its wit and its message. The box office number is 342-5740.\ COUNTRY ART MUSIC: Find out what it is by attending Terry Allen's concert Tuesday night at 8 at Mill Mountain Theatre's Main Stage in Center in the Square.

Allen is a country-rocker whose themes go beyond mere drinkin' and cheatin' to themes dealing with Vietnam veterans, Southeast Asians, American Indians and the denizens of Texas towns and bars.

He's performing as part of the One Night Stands of the Arts Council of Roanoke Valley and related groups. Tickets are $7 for most, $5 for senior citizens. To order them, call 342-5790.\ BENEFIT: No Strings Attached, the hammer dulcimer band, will play a concert on behalf of the New River Valley Chapter of UNICEF tonight at 8 at Blacksburg High School.
