HIGH-POWERED DANCE BAND AT IROQUOIS

The Romantics are playing the Iroquois on Sunday, and that means the guys in the Roanoke City jail will probably feel the building shake.

This 10-year-old group is regarded as one of the best '80s dance bands still performing.

Among the group's most prominent hits is "Talkin In Your Sleep," a 1984 tune off the multimillion selling album "In Heat" (CBS/Nemporer). The song was in the Top Five in virtually every rock-playing country in the world. Other hits from the album included "Lock You Up," "One In A Million" and "Open Your Door."

But likely the Romantics most recognizable hit, "What I Like About You," was from their first, self-titled album. The song was recently recorded by Michael Morales and recieved fairly widespread radio airplay.

Original members Wally Palmer (lead vocals, guitar, mouth harp), Mike Skill (bass, vocals) and Coz Canler (lead guitar, vocals) still play in the the Romantics. Clem Burke, formerly of Blondie, is the group's new drummer.

According to their New York publicist, the Romantics are currently in the midst of "one of the longest personal appearance tours in rock history - two years with no end in sight."

The Romantics at the Iroquois Club, Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance; $12 at the door.
