MOSES, OTHERS QUIT COMMITTEE ON DRUG TESTING

Four committee members who disassociated themselves from The Athletics Congress' drug-testing program, including Edwin Moses, said they did so Friday because of a lack of support from the national track and field federation.

Moses, Harvey Glance and Linda Shesky resigned, and Doriane Lambelet, who had been helping with legal advice, said she would not have any further involvement with the program.

Moses, chairman of TAC's Year-Round Drug-Testing Committee, and Lambelet represented the group in a one-hour conference call with the media.

Both said they could not go into specifics over the reasons for their departure, but would do so, along with Glance and Shesky, in detailed letters to TAC's Executive Board.

But Moses said, "It's been difficult to deal with TAC."

"Our frustrations have been with TAC - not with the [drug] problem," Lambelet said. "Maybe volunteers aren't the way to handle this program. It's become too much at this point. I think TAC is aware of my frustrations."

TAC officials would not confirm the resignations, and spokesman Pete Cava said, "We don't plan to comment now. We had agreed there would be a joint statement next week with a formal announcement of the resignations. Our people will consult on this and make a statement next week."
