CONVICTED COKE DEALER GETS 15-YEAR PRISON TERM

A Franklin County man convicted of selling small amounts of cocaine earlier this year was sentenced Friday to 15 years in prison and ordered to pay a $30,000 fine.

Franklin Circuit Judge B.A. Davis III also ordered Patrick Lynn Bowman, 22, of Route 3, Boones Mill, to serve 20 years of probation after his release from prison.

Bowman was one of several people arrested earlier this year in an undercover investigation of alleged drug sales at Paul's Bar-B-Que, a restaurant on Virginia 40 west of Rocky Mount.

Franklin Commonwealth's Attorney Cliff Hapgood recommended a stiff sentence even though testimony showed Bowman was not a major cocaine dealer.

Hapgood said Bowman sold small amounts of powdered cocaine to support his own drug habit. "He was breeding people exactly like him," Hapgood said. "It had to stop somewhere."
