WARNING ISSUED ON TELEPHONE CHARITY SOLICITING

A professional, Florida-based telephone-solicitor, Community Benefits Services or C.B.S. Telemarketing, is seeking contributions on behalf of a charitable organization to send children and the elderly to a drug awareness museum, according to an alert from the state Division of Consumer Affairs.

Consumers are asked to buy $1 tickets for the traveling drug show that has offered free admission to anyone in some locations. The show is scheduled to be in Roanoke on June 15.

However, neither the charity, known as Children's Traveling Museum, Kids Versus Drugs, nor the solicitor is registered with the commonwealth of Virginia as required by law. The contributions may be used for non-charitable purposes, the Division of Consumer Affairs warns.

Consumers should call the Division of Consumer Affairs at 1-800-552-9963 or 1-804-786-2042 to determine if a solicitor is registered under the Virginia Solicitations of Contributions Law.
