ACADEMIC OLYMPICS PLANNED AT COLLEGE

The seventh annual Academic Olympics will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Virginia Highlands Community College with area high school students battling with their brains to win scholarships.

The winning school will get a trophy and a full in-state tuition for one of its students to attend Virginia Highlands. The scholarship is supported by the Marion Henry Yates Scholarship.

The second-place winner receives a $400 scholarship and the third a $200 scholarship, for each school's highest academic graduate attending Virginia Highlands. Additional $100 scholarships are available to participating teams. These are funded by the VHCC Educational Foundation.

Participating high schools will include Marion Senior, Chilhowie, Northwood, Abingdon, Holston, John Battle, Patrick Henry, Virginia and Tennessee.

There is no charge to attend the program, sponsored by the Virginia Highlands faculty and Division of Academic and Instructional Support.
