VA. SWIMMERS SHINE IN ALL-STAR DUAL MEET

Carolyn Bucher won two events in the girls' 10-and-under age group to lead the Roanoke Valley Aquatic Association Gators on Saturday in the Virginia-North Carolina All-Star Dual Meet.

Bucher won the 50-meter freestyle and 200 freestyle and was fifth in the 50 butterfly. In the same age group, Mary Logan won the 100 backstroke and was third in the 100 breast stroke and 200 freestyle, and Margaret Hunter Turner finished third in the 50 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle. Turner and Logan also were a part of the winning Virginia team in the 200 medley relay.

In the girls' 13-14 division, Brooke Adams won the 100 backstroke and was a part of Virginia's winning team in the 200 medley relay.

Meredith Hale (girls' 15-18) was second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 400 individual medley.

Among the boys: Brian Marsh (11-12) was second in the 100 breast stroke, fifth in the 50 butterfly and sixth in the 200 freestyle; David Feldman (13-14) was sixth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 100 freestyle, and Dan Summerlin (15-18) was third in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 400 IM.

Also competing in the meet were two swimmers from the Southwest Area/Pulaski YMCA team.

Graham Gravely won the 100 backstroke in the boys' 10-and-under division, and Brian Manning was fourth in the 100 freestyle in the boys' 13-14 division. - Staff report
