BARKER WINS 3RD HEART DOUBLES TITLE

John Barker won his third consecutive Mens A Division doubles title in the American Heart Association Doubles Championship tennis tournament Sunday at Hunting Hills Country Club.

Barker, an associate professional at Hunting Hills, teamed with Mark Snead to defeat Nelson Prillaman and Earl Weaver 6-3, 6-4. Barker has won the event three straight years with three different partners.

Antonette Veloso and Michelle Monsour teamed to win the women's A Division title.

The tournament raised nearly $3,000 for the Roanoke Valley chapter of the American Heart Association. In the past 15 years the tournament has raised more than $67,000 for that organization. - Staff report
