Two Job Training Partnership Act grants for adults target high-school dropouts and those who receive Aid to Families with Dependent Children. The youth program is for ages 14-21, and dropouts and minorities are encouraged to apply.
A $53,479 grant will pay for a two-part program that emphasizes general education and occupational training. Approved areas include geriatric nursing assistance; heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing; and clerical and computer operations.
A $36,521 grant for the youth program will also provide training in those career areas. Some on-the-job training and training in other programs offered at New River will also be available.
A $5,600 grant will fund a training program for five adults to learn skills in nursing and electrical, instrumentation and electronics technology.
The funds were allocated by the New River-Mount Rogers Private Industry Council.
